JOI Gaming is the operator of Jacks, a gambling brand in the Netherlands. The warning states it could face a maximum penalty of €1 million. This penalty will be imposed if it violates the ban on role models in gambling marketing again.
KSA or Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gambling regulator said that in 2023, at the Jack’s Racing Day event, role models for the operator signed caps with the event logo and the Jacks brand name.
The Jack’s Racing Day website and social media posted pictures of role models posing with hostesses. The hostesses wore corporate clothing with the Jacks logo.
The KSA stated that these posts were still available when they imposed the order. If JOI Gaming does not remove these statements immediately, the company must pay a penalty of €50,000 per day.
The regulator said JOI Gaming must pay a penalty of €200,000 per day with a maximum penalty of €1 million. This applies if they repeat the violation in the run-up to or during future editions of Jack’s Racing Day.
TT Circuit Assen will host Jack’s Racing Day 2024 from August 2 to 4. In a statement, KSA said that strict rules apply to the use of role models for gambling advertising. These rules aim to protect vulnerable groups such as young people, and risk and problem gamblers.
They added that role models include celebrities, former and current professional footballers, influencers, and models. The regulations prohibit the use of role models for high-risk gambling, such as casinos and online gambling. However, strict conditions allow the use of role models for lower-risk gambling, such as lotteries.
