The Thai Council of State has released the final draft of a bill to legalize entertainment complexes with casinos. Until August 18, the draft will be open to public feedback.
The proposed rules include 30-year casino licenses. In addition to this, the option for a 10-year renewal. Casinos would be part of large entertainment complexes with hotels, convention centers, and amusement parks. Julapun Amornvivat suggested last May that the casino component would be no more than around 5 per cent of the total area of the project.
The draft stipulates that complexes must be located in designated areas and operated by companies registered in Thailand. This is with a minimum paid-up capital amounting to THB10 billion or US$282 million. The prime minister and a regulatory agency led a policy panel that would oversee the industry.
