ACMA or The Australia Communications and Media Authority has issued blocking orders for two more gambling websites that allegedly have been operating in illegally in the country.
Authorities determined that both Lucky Block and Rooli were operating in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. This led ACMA to request internet service providers in Australia block access to the two websites.
The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 states that operators may offer online gambling in Australia only if they hold a license. Permitted activities include sports betting, horse racing wagers, and lotteries. Gaming like online slots and table games in prohibited.
Lucky Block operates as a cryptocurrency online casino and sportsbook. On the other hand, Rooli also runs internet casino games.
Two more websites have joined the long list of sites blocked in Australia. ACMA flagged Casino Belle for violating the Act and issued a blocking order last September.
Other websites blocked in recent months include Casino Australia Online, Pokies.bet, Pokiesman, and Smart Pokies.
ACMA said that website blocking is one of a range of enforcement options to protect Australians against illegal online gambling. Since ACMA made its first blocking request in November 2019, 1059 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked.
Furthermore, over 220 illegal services have also pulled out of Australia since they started enforcing illegal offshore gambling rules in 2017.
As the Australian government continues to consider new plans for gambling advertising, the latest blockings come.
It dates back to June of the previous year. This is when the Murphy Report outlined 31 recommendations for reforming the gambling sector in Australia. A full ban across all TV and radio advertising has been include in this.
