Asmongold, a Twitch star has officially joined Kick. He becomes the latest high-profile streamer to expand onto the rising platform. Nevertheless, the way he did it surprised many. Kick was launched in late 2022 as a challenger to Amazon-owned Twitch. Thanks to its more lenient content guidelines and significantly higher payouts for creators, it has been gaining attention.

Kick has been growing rapidly. One key reason is its strategy of signing some of the biggest names from Twitch and YouTube. It has also been spending a lot of money to do it. It secured agreements with two of the top content creators of Twitch in 2023: xQc, who reportedly signed a $100 million contract, and Amouranth. Even though the details of her agreement have not been made public. That same year, Kick also signed Nickmercs under a $10 million non-exclusive deal. The agreement allowed him to stream on the platform while keeping his audience on other platforms.
On June 1, Kick surprised many by officially announcing Asmongold’s arrival. The platform posted, “Welcome to the Kick family @Asmongold.” Asmongold shared in response that he would start multistreaming the very next day. This means he will broadcast his content on both Twitch and Kick simultaneously. Yet, the unexpected twist was this collaboration didn’t involve any major financial agreement. Kick co-founder Bijan Tehrani quickly clarified that Asmongold joined without an exclusive contract or large payout. He explained that the popular Twitch streamer signed up through Kick’s standard Partner Program. Tehrani noted that Asmongold’s choice to multistream marks a major shift and criticized Twitch’s long-standing practice of keeping creators in a closed ecosystem.
Later on, Asmongold explained his decision to join the partner program of Kick through saying he believes multistreaming is the future of content creation. He stressed that nothing will change for his Twitch views–his content will still be available there as normal. This move simply adds the streaming platform as another place where fans can watch him. Asmongold pointed to YouTube’s strict DMCA policies. He said these rules make the platform difficult for his style of streaming. That’s why he chose Kick over YouTube.
