According to Spillemyndigheden, online casinos generated almost half of Denmark’s gambling revenue in April of this year. This is with the vertical reporting DKK331 million or $5.1 million in GGR or gross gaming revenue. It is a 21.4% rise from 2024.
In spite of declines in land-based gambling, the strong digital performance drove overall industry GGR up 11.6% year-on-year to DKK665 million or $103 million.
Since December of the past year, the DKK331 million in GGR was the highest when the total reached DKK347 million. Slots kept to account for most of the majority of online casino revenue at 78.9%. Blackjack follows with 6.6%, and roulette with 6.4%. The remainder came from poker, bingo, as well as other games.
A shift toward mobile platforms were also observed, with 67.9% of online casino activity taking place on mobile devices. This is in comparison to 59% in the previous year. Desktop use declined to 32.1%. For online casinos in April, the most active gaming days were Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Sports betting generated DKK207 million in April. This is a 6.1% increase year-on-year. While desktop platforms accounted for 15%, as well as betting shops 14.2%, mobile betting represented 70.8% of this total. With Tuesdays ranking third, weekend days had the highest volume of bets.
Revenue from gaming machines fell 3.6% year-on-year to DKK93 million. With restaurant machines making up the remaining 20.3%, most of this came from gambling halls, which contributed 79.7% of machine-based GGR. For gaming machines, Tuesday was also the most active day.
Land-based casino GGR remained close to DKK31 million. This is the same as April 2024. Since December, this was the highest monthly total. Bingo generated DKK3 million. Yet, comparative data were not available for the past year.
