YouTube will introduce new restrictions on November 17 to limit gambling and violent video game content reaching younger audiences. The rules target both traditional and virtual gambling elements, including NFTs and in-game assets with monetary value. This upcoming enforcement is one of the most comprehensive updates to the platform’s Community Guidelines.

Google, YouTube’s parent company, says the revised framework will cover digital goods. It will also cover activities that simulate gambling behavior, even if no real money is involved. Videos showing casino-style gameplay, such as slots, poker, or roulette, and NFT-based wagering or in-game item betting, will not face age restrictions or removal.
Recently, the policy of YouTube primarily restricted links to unapproved gambling websites. The new rules significantly expand enforcement to gambling-like features within video games and digital collectibles. This covers virtual assets with real-world value, including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive weapon skins and NFT tokens used in betting exchanges.
Creators have a short window to review and adjust their uploads before enforcement begins. YouTube emphasized that these rules apply worldwide. In its policy announcement, the company said most channels will see little to no impact. However, they acknowledged this is a lot of information and want to give creators time to adapt.
YouTube will also require creators offering gambling-related content to meet the certification standards of Google as part of this initiative. Allowing only those operating legally within jurisdictions that allow gambling, Google certified advertisers on a country-by-country basis. Certification is mandatory for promoting content related to sports betting, online casinos, horse racing, lotteries, or fantasy sports.
Digital platforms that mimic gambling without using real money must clearly disclose this if creators feature social casinos. Google also requires certified advertisers to include disclaimers confirming their offerings are intended only for users of legal gambling age.
