The gaming regulator of Curaçao is pressing the government for clarity. This is after a financial supervision body suggested it may be under investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Conflicting statements from senior officials have deepened uncertainty around the agency. The agency aims to guide the island toward a more transparent gambling regime.

The CGA, or Curaçao Gaming Authority, has asked the government to explain how the suggestion arose that the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) is investigating the regulator. The CGA stated it has received no notification of any such inquiry. On November 30, Antilliaans Dagblad reported that the Financial Supervision Board (Cft) had informed the Finance Ministry about an ongoing Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation into the CGA. Following this, the Cft outlined its request in a letter sent to Justice Minister Shalten Hato. According to the newspaper, rumors of an inquiry had been circulating for some time. It also noted that the Criminal Investigation Cooperation Team (RST) had been working on the matter.
CGA states, as reported on December 2 by the Curaçao Chronicle, a report that a CGA spokesperson has confirmed to SiGMA News is accurate, the reference to an OM investigation came as an unexpected and negative surprise.
The regulator told the Justice Minister that clarity is crucial to maintain confidence in its integrity. It also ensures the agency can operate effectively during the rollout of the Landsverordening op de Kansspelen (LOK), the new gaming law. According to CGA directors, they had also shared the letter with Finance Minister Charles Cooper.
The CGA’s intervention comes at a critical moment for Curaçao. The island is continuing its efforts to modernize its gambling sector and strengthen its regulatory framework under the new reforms.
