According to the president of the board of Polla Chilena de Beneficencia, Macarena Carvallo, the implementation of measures taken by Chile to block the growth of illegal online gambling sites is still pending.

In an interview with ADN Hoy, a local news publication, Carvallo commented on the current developments in a lawsuit filed by the state-owned lottery against online casinos operating in the country. Alleging crimes like criminal association, illegal operation of games of chance, as well as money laundering, the company filed a criminal complaint against online casinos before the Fourth Guarantee Court of Santiago.
The lawsuit ordered the restriction of access to online betting sites. It resulted in a major victory for the company on September 30 of the previous year. The Supreme Court of Chile ruled in favor of a constitutional protection appeal. Yet, Carvalo says that there ist still a lack of full compliance with the ruling.
She said they are waiting for telecommunications companies to inform the Court of Appeals whether they have blocked all online gambling and betting websites. They also want an explanation of the blocking mechanism, as it is difficult to block them completely. Maintaining a permanent block on these platforms is complicated because they often change their URLs or domains.
Carvallo said that full compliance has not yet been achieved, although some progress has been made. She stated that the Justice system ordered the blocking of illegal sites. That has occurred partially by telecommunications companies. Today, they are determining the most effective way to comply with and execute that ruling.
The telecommunications firms claim that they have complied with the court order based on her evaluation. Regardless, the lottery firm disagrees. She said telecommunications firms claim they have complied with the court order. However, she disagrees because the authorities have not effectively blocked all platforms.
