Starting this Friday, March 01, the Telegram channel will pay out 50% of revenue from ads displayed in TON.
Telegram is a privacy-focused online messaging platform. It recently announced that it will begin splitting ad revenue with creators with payouts exclusively in TON or Toncoin.
Telegram originally developed the TON price project before it continued independently. It has spiked a 31% to a high not seen in more than two years.
Starting March 01, Friday, the platform’s channel owners will start receiving 50% of any revenue generated from ads displayed by Telegram in their channels. Both individuals and organizations that post messages to dedicated one-way feeds that any subscriber can view for free will gain this.
Pavel Durov is the founder of Telegram. He announced in the news via his own channel in the application that he will only distribute all such earnings through TON or The Open Network.
Durov said that this will create a virtuous circle, in which content creators will be able to either cash out their Toncoins or reinvest them in promoting and upgrading their channels.
TON spiked some 31.48% to $2,84 within an hour of the announcement. According to CoinGecko, this price has not seen since February 2022. The token’s market capitalization breached $9.8 billion. Since then, TON has dipped $2.41 at writing. This is still up nearly 12% on the day.
He claimed that Telegram channels collectively receive one trillion views monthly. Decrypt did not immediately receive a response after reaching out to the platform. They reached out for comment regarding the amount of revenue ads on Telegram channels have previously generated.
TON originally stood for Telegram Open Network. The network planned to make its Gram cryptocurrency a key part of the messaging app’s feature. Nevertheless, regulatory scrutiny from the United States SEC or Securities and Exchange Commission forced the company to reconsider.
