Kansspelautoriteit or KSA, a Dutch gambling regulator has issued a €1 million or £872,498 or $1.1 million fine to Curaçao-licensed Alimaniere Sociedad De Responsabilidad Limitada for operating in the Netherlands illegally without a license.
KSA announced the ruling on January 6, marking the second sanction imposed on Alimaniere in just two months. The regulator reached the decision on December 10 but only made the information public now. KSA issued the initial penalty to Alimaniere in November. This is for offering online gambling illegally through its Time2spin.com site. Games of chance were able to be accessed by the consumers, which are not allowed online in the Netherlands.
KSA informed Alimaniere that it would have to pay €140,000 per violation, up to a maximum of €420,000. Despite this, Alimaniere continued offering gambling on another site, Timetospin1.com, after Time2spin.com became inaccessible following an earlier warning.
KSA said in a latest announcement that Alimaniere has continued to offer online gambling to Dutch players without a license. Again, KSA said that users could access and play illegal games of chance. Country-specific features like Dutch language were also available to users.
The case dates back to November 2023. This is when KSA first investigated Alimaniere for potential wrongdoing. If it did not stop activity in the Dutch market, it warned the operator that it would face action.
KSA elected to impose a fine above the basic amount for this offense because if the nature of the case.
Before the new system was recently implemented, the existing Dutch policy stated that companies with a turnover of less than €15 million should face a basic fine of €600,000 for this offense. Now, Alimaniere faces a fine almost double that amount.
KSA highlighted numerous factors as to why it took this course of action. These include Alimaniere’s failure to verify ages on its websites. This is the option for restricted autoplay and how players could face financial penalties if they were inactive for a specific amount of time.
