The SPA will keep on releasing data. Regis Dudena, its head hopes these insights will help to guide future regulatory decisions.

New data from the SPA, or Secretariat of Prizes and Bets, has been released. It reports that betting and iGaming GGR reached BRL17.4 billion, or $3.4 billion, in Brazil. This figure covers the first six months of the licensed market.
Brazil’s online market launched on January 1. This followed six months of operators applying for licenses and meeting strict regulations for the launch.
In its first market performance update, recently published, the SPA reported that 17.7 million Brazilians wagered with licensed operators during the first six months. Of these, 71% were men, while 28.9% were women.
Betting was most widespread among those aged between 31 and 40 or 27.8% of the total number of bettors. The 18–25 age group (22.4%) and the 25–30 age group (22.2%) ranked second and third. Only 2.1% of bettors were between 61 and 70 years old.
Bettors placed their wagers with 78 licensed operators across 182 authorized brands. Active bettors spent an average of around BRL164 per month. This totaled BRL17.4 billion, or $3.2 billion, over the first half of the year.
In July, the Federal Revenue Service reported collecting BRL3.8 billion in gambling taxes during H1. The SPA collected around BRL2.2 billion in license fees and an estimated BRL50 million in inspection fees.
According to the SPA, it will keep on publishing frequent data on the performance of the market.
Regis Dudena, chief of SPA said that their goal is, from now on, to periodically disclose the activities of SPA and the evolution of the fixed-odds betting market in Brazil, fulfilling this government’s commitment to transparency and, above all, reporting to society regarding the responsibilities of the sate and private actors.
