The Government of the Province of Buenos Aires announced a new requirement for online gaming and sports betting platforms. All authorized platforms in Argentina must now use biometric identification and facial recognition.

During a press conference, Carlos Bianco, Buenos Aires Minister of Government, made the announcement. He stated that they are seeking to stop and address the important issue of problem gambling among minors.
As a result, Bianco said that the Province of Buenos Aires now authorizes seven platforms. These platforms must implement biometric identification and identity verification across all sites.
Bianco noted that betting platforms will have a maximum of 60 days to implement and regularize these systems. He added that users must identify themselves and provide proof of life when logging in. This measure will block unauthorized access using family members’ data.
Bianco says that devices with cameras will collect biometric data for facial recognition. As a result, the new requirement partially blocks users from accessing online betting sites via computers.
He reported later in the conference that the Buenos Aires Province Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC) filed 300 complaints against illegal betting sites last week. IPLyC submitted the complaints to specialized prosecution units.
Moreover, the minister highlighted that the province has a mental health care network dedicated to assisting people with gambling addiction.
Previously, Gonzalo Atanasof, president of IPLyC Buenos Aires, announced that authorities are developing regulations to limit and organize advertising. The regulations will focus particularly on protecting minors through platforms authorized to offer online gaming and sports betting in the province.
