The Danish Gambling Regulator has restricted the largest number of operators at once, as Denmark actively works to protect consumers. The country also runs one of the best self-exclusion programs in the world. As the Nordic nation keeps on launching tailored marketing campaigns geared towards vulnerable groups, recently, ROFUS has reported more than 60,000 registrations.

The regulator has now cracked down on illegal gambling sites. Adding 178 domains to its blacklist, this is a process that has been going on since 2012. Denmark has been rather slow to move with blocking offshore gambling sites. Yet, this latest action marks the largest number of sites the regulator has shut down in one sweep. The blocking comes in the middle increased spending on gambling in the nation.
The court in Frederiksberg approved the blocking order. At the same time, it marks an important step forward while also acknowledging the legal challenges with restricting websites, be that offshore gambling operators.
Notably, this is the single biggest blocking order issued and honored in Denmark. It also adds to a sprawling list of blocked domains. While ongoing, these efforts play a secondary role to the regulator’s far more efficient strategy, which achieves strong channelization and actively protects vulnerable consumers.
The director of the regulator, comments on the previous achievement, Anders Dorph. He said that it is, of course, frustrating that illegal gambling sites targeting Danes continue to appear. But he is very pleased that they have tools to find the sites and that they succeed in blocking them.
Anders continued that in 2023, they took the initiative to have the websites blocked twice a year instead of one. This means they can more quickly close access to sites that do not have a Danish license and where consumers to not have the same protection as with gaming providers that have a license.
