In an open survey in the “Diia” application, 57,176 citizens of Ukraine took part. They selected public activists who will be part of the Anti-Corruption Expert Group at the PlayCity state agency.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation reported this.
A poll in “Diia” has formed such a body for the first time. There were 21 candidates from public organizations. These groups work to stop and fight corruption. They also combat gambling addiction and illegal gambling. Citizens made their choice from among them.
The elected public activists will not be part of the PlayCity team. Yet, it will independently monitor transparency in decision-making. It will oversee the activities of the state agency. It will also represent society’s interests in the reform of the gambling industry.
Below were not allowed to participate in the selection:
1. current civil servants
2. citizens of Russia
3. people with a criminal record
4. owners, founders, employees or beneficiaries of the gambling business
5. Ukrainians who worked at the PlayCity agency or its predecessor, the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries, for two years, and their relatives
Next, the members of the expert group will elect a group chairman and will be able to get to work. Key tasks include formulating proposals for changes in gambling market regulations. They will also take part in inspections of gambling and lottery organizers. According to the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the state budget loses up to UAH 10 billion yearly due to the shadow gambling and lottery market.
PlayCity replaced the liquidated Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (CRGL). On June 2 of this year, the new state agency became operational.
