This comes as the DIA (Department of Internal Affairs) intensifies its crackdown on influencers. They are focusing on those who illegally promote overseas casinos for cash on their social media platforms.
A spokesperson told the Herald that as these are live investigations, they cannot disclose the details of the influencers or their interactions with the Department.
Te Rawhitiroa Bosch told the Herald that people have repeatedly asked him to promote online gambling to his 76,000 Facebook fans and 43,000 Instagram followers. He always gives the same reply: “hell no.”
Bosch said that when he gets those messages asking him to get paid to promote online gambling sites, he posts “hell no, mana over money” and put that message out on his platforms.
He told the Herald that he knows how harmful gambling is for young people. He won’t be a part of it.
Te Rawhitiroa Bosch also stated that he’s not going to do it. He said it’s not his role to tell other social media influencers what to do. However, he hopes that by posting his stance on online gambling and its effects on people, it will encourage others to avoid it.
He said his integrity is priceless even if companies were offering big cash incentives.
Same goes for Davis. He has 466,000 followers on TikTok, 43,000 on Facebook, and 47,000 on Instagram.
Davis told the Herald that someone offered him $5000 to post a single story promoting gambling.
He said that he’ll pick up his kids from school and lots of kids know who he is. He doesn’t want them adopting bad habits like gambling and alcohol due to what they see him promote online.
