AIEJA, a gambling trade body, urges the Sheinbaum government to seize the opportunity to double casino visitation to 10 million by 2030. The group says this could reposition gambling as an economic lever for Mexico’s tourism, hospitality, and leisure sectors.

Industry leaders are urging the Mexican government to act. They want Mexican casinos to become the next hotspot for North and Latin America.
The vision is led by the Association of Permit Holders, Operators, and Suppliers of the Entertainment and Gambling Industry (AIEJA). The group has called on policymakers to modernize outdated regulations. It also urges support for one of the country’s fastest-growing entertainment sectors.
AIEJA states that Mexico’s casinos currently welcome around five million visitors each year. Projections suggest that number could double to 10 million by 2030. The trade body says this growth would deliver economic benefits across the leisure, hospitality, and technology sectors. It believes Mexico could become a major regional hub for entertainment and tourism.
Miguel Ángel Ochoa Sánchez, President of AIEJA, said clear rules bring benefits for all. The state gains stability. Operators gain certainty. Consumers gain protection. He added that Mexico has the opportunity to become a leading entertainment destination in Latin America. This will only happen if the regulatory and fiscal framework evolves with technological and demographic changes.
The leadership of Codere SA (or Codere Online), Grupo CIRSA, and Playtech Plc have all highlighted Mexico as a key strategic market. They see it as a major opportunity for future investment.
Executives have warned that these plans could be revised or delayed. This could happen if the proposed 50% tax on gaming income is implemented without prior consultation. They also stress the need for reform of the existing framework.
Industry representatives note that the Federal Gaming and Lottery Law of 1947 can no longer govern the complexity of modern gambling markets. They stress that taxation should depend on an updated and transparent legal framework.
