Recent poll conducted by iGaming content provider Play’n GO shows overwhelming support for the prohibition of the slot mechanic featured in Bonus Buys games.
The results of a survey in Sweden found that 69% of the general public support banning Bonus Buy games. The study is based on a national sample. Seven out of ten people support the regulation change. More than half of Swedish slot players around 55% want the game type prohibited too.
66% of the public and 52% of Swedish slot players believe Bonus Buy games exploit vulnerable gamblers. This is among the respondents who want to see the slot game banned. Moreover, nearly 63% or two-thirds of slot players themselves think that Bonus Buy games result in higher losses for players.
Bonus Buy games allow players to buy directly into the bonus or free spins round of a slot game. It explains Play’n GO that in many cases for hundreds of times more than their initial stake for a single spin.
Some of the world’s leading regulators ban the controversial game type, as stated by the provider. It includes kSA of the Netherlands and the UK Gambling Commission. They repeated their stance in a reminder to all online casino operators back in January 2020. Companies cannot promote increased gambling. They should not encourage customers to bet more.
The Play’n GO findings revealed that Swedish slot players think that changing the regulation to align with the UK and the Netherlands regarding Bonus Buy games is the responsible thing to do. This is as per the 61%.
According to the 63%, a change in the regulation shows that the Swedish government is taking gambling issues seriously.
