The Canadian artist has placed a jaw-dropping $750,000 (approximately Rs 6.4 crore) bet on RCB to win the final.

Finally, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have done it. RCB lifted their maiden IPL trophy in a thrilling finale that saw Virat Kohli and his men bring home the glory after years of heartbreak, near-misses, and fan anguish. However, the team wasn’t the only ones celebrating. Drake, a global rap superstar had his own reason to pop the champagne.
The Canadian artist has placed a jaw-dropping $750,000 bet—estimated at Rs 6.4 crore—on RCB to win the final. The wager carried odds of 1.75. Drake placed his bet via Stake, a crypto-betting platform. With RCB’s emphatic victory, he is now set to walk away with a cool $1.3 million—or around Rs 11 crore. His Instagram stories suggest that he placed a hefty Rs 3.1 crore bet on the final. The win is even more striking considering Drake’s infamous reputation in sports betting, widely known as the “Drake Curse.” That so-called curse now appears to be broken—at least in cricket.
The move was bold because of the amount involved. Aside from this, Drake’s infamous history in the world of sports betting—widely known as the ‘Drake Curse’—also plays a role, as many refer to it by that name. The term originated from the pattern of the rapper of backing teams or athletes who ended up losing. This is from Serena Williams and Conor McGregor to Manchester City and the Toronto Raptors in pre-2019. Betting enthusiasts, as well as sports fans alike often joked that having the support of Drake was a surefire sign of impending doom.
Yet that narrative may finally be changing with win of RCB. Someone appears to have broken the so-called ‘Drake Curse’—at least in cricket.
For now, on the Indian music scene, Karan Aujla, Punjabi singer and rapper was backing his own home team, the Punjab Kings. His Instagram stories suggest that he had placed a hefty Rs 3.1 crore bet on the final.
