Coljuegos is the gambling regulator of Colombia. The authorities established guidelines on responsible gaming. These guidelines aim to ensure that land-based and online operators nationwide implement programs. The programs should prevent gambling problems and support individuals who struggle with loss of control while gambling.
Resolution 22,654 of 2024 introduced these guidelines as part of the “Take Control, Play Safely” campaign. It seeks to inform citizens about the risks of gambling problem.
The resolution states that operators shall continuously monitor and update the strategies adopted to ensure their effectiveness and implementation. These strategies should include clear objectives, detailed activity schedules, and relevant information about planned actions.
The authorities established that gamblers can voluntarily access tools like the risk factors identification test, depending on the gambling modality. This allows recognition patterns that may require the adoption of preventive measures against compulsive gambling.
Coljuegos President, Marco Emilio Hincapié said that these guidelines make the control of responsible gambling more rigorous. They are asking operators to implement campaigns to inform gamblers about the risks associated with compulsive gambling.
He explained that for the new online games, including Baloto, SuperAstro, and other internet-operated games, the authorities require operators to offer a self-exclusion process. This allows users to voluntarily block themselves to avoid risky behaviors.
For now, Coljuegos requires operators to submit an annual report. The report must include the actions taken, compliance indicators, and the results achieved. They will carry out audits and supervisory visits and may require additional information to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs.
The Colombian regulator has launched the “Take Control, Play Safely” campaign. It also introduced a website where players can take the risk factors identification test to promote responsible gaming.
