Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s regulator, has fined Glitnor Services and LeoVegas’ Roar Vegas for customer duty of care breaches.
Spelinspektionen stated that the company failed to intervene quickly enough to curb excessive gambling behaviors of three customers. This follows a supervision check of operation of Roar Vegas. Two of these gamblers fall into the younger age group of 18-24.
The regulator says that Roar Vegas believes the operator should have acted earlier. However, the regulator acknowledges that it did intervene with effective measures.
According to Roar Vegas, it had not breached its duty of care. The company stated that the duty of care measures in the three cases in question functioned appropriately. This ends in a result that saw the excessive gambling cease of the customer.
The company told the regulator that it found the guidelines unclear on how to fulfill its obligations as a licensee. It stated that there are no clear regulations on when more intrusive measures should be taken.
Yet, the Swedish gambling authority noted for the assessed cases, customers had logged in lots of days in a row, had long login times and lost deposits in a short time after funding their accounts. In the view of the regulator, all of these are indicators of problem gambling.
As two of the examined cases had younger players, the regulator noted that Roar Vegas should have raised their risk profile faster and taken more intrusive measures sooner.
Roar Vegas pointed to several measures it has taken to improve gambler protection since the check-up. These include more pop-up warning messages for high deposit limits on the website. The company also introduced clear guidelines for handling high-risk customers and implemented a cap on deposit limits, as well as fixed limits on bet and loss size.
