A member of the Nationalist Women Party or MHP, Halil Ozturk has sounded the alarm on illegal gambling in Turkey. It reveals that approximately 10 million people are now addiction, with an estimated $10 billion leaving the country yearly.
With some tragically taking their own lives, many young people caught in this cycle face despair. Ozturk is calling for immediate action and stricter penalties.
Ozturk represents Kirikkale in Parliament. He emphasized the need for new measures to discuss illegal gambling in Turkey. Ozturk identified this as one of the nation’s most pressing issues. He has urged stronger penalties to serve as a deterrent.
Ozturk warned that those participating in illegal betting are indirectly supporting criminal networks, endangering both their future and their national security.
Ozturk highlighted the ease of access to illegal gambling in Türkiye through mobile phones. He describes it as a significant risk.
He said that these addictive betting and gambling platforms, often promoted through online advertisements, lead users into more dangerous gambling activities, pulling their youth deeper into this trap. The lack of age restrictions on these platforms makes it easier for young people to fall victim.
Ozturk reminded the assembly about the bill he introduced, which advocates for prison sentences for individuals involved in illegal gambling in Türkiye.
