Spelinspektionen, the gambling authority of Sweden has issued a restriction against WinBet NV. This is after determining the operator illegally targeted Swedish consumers by Superb.bet, its online platform.
Spelinspektionen found that Winbet lacked the necessary Swedish license, following an investigation, operating only under a license issued in Greece. The site was still accessible to Swedish players, as well as triggered numerous red flags indicating unlawful targeting in spite of this.
Key findings revealed that Superb.bet automatically displayed in Swedish when accessed from Swedish IP addresses and allowed player registration without restriction. Moreover, it offered payment options specific to the Swedish market, criteria that under Swedish law constitute illegal targeting.
Spelinspektionen provided WinBet the opportunity to answer to the allegations. Yet, the company failed to comment. Subsequently, the regulator imposed the restriction with immediate effect.
This is not the first time WinBet has come under regulatory fire. In October 2024, Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gambling authority issued a formal warning to the operator for offering unlicensed online games of chance.
WinBet operated four sites. These are Galaxyspins.com, Winnercasino1.bet, Superb1.bet, as well as Doctorspins.com, all without proper licenses. The operator faced weekly fines of €280,000 (US$328,636), up to a maximum of €840,000 (US$985,909), unless it stopped operations.
Spelinspektionen has cleared three licensed operators which were AB Trav och Galopp or ATG, Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, as well as Lotto Direct in a separate development, of any wrongdoing. This follows a review of their compliance with reporting requirements.
Initiated in June, the review found no breaches or issues warranting more action. In result to this, all three cases have been officially closed.
